February 2, 2018 by Stephen Moramarco

Your iPhone is literally your life. If stolen or hacked, your photos, messages, credit cards, and other personal information can be used for malicious purposes. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to keep it as secure as possible. Here are the top 5 security apps for iPhone users that are a good step in the right direction.

Find My iPhone

Find My iPhone is a handy feature that is already included within the iOS; however, in order for it to work, it needs to be activated. To do so, go into Settings, and tap Apple ID. Next, select iCloud and scroll all the way down to Find My iPhone and flip the switch. Then, if your phone ever falls into the wrong hands or is misplaced, you can log into icloud.com from any browser and it will appear on a map. From there, you can have it make a sound, put in Lost mode, or erase it if it can’t be retrieved. Cost: Free

1Password

Passwords are the key to security, yet it can be very difficult to deal with them all. Enter 1Password, a highly-rated password manager that syncs across all devices. You can store, organize, and monitor all your passwords in one secure location. It’s easy to use interface also lets you generate secure passwords and then log in at the touch of a button. Cost: $2.99/mo or $4.99 for families.

Wire

Wire is an encrypted messaging service for chats, files, and phone conversations. Because its servers are based in Germany and Ireland, your data is protected by European privacy laws. Its software is open-sourced and independently reviewed. Sign up with multiple accounts to use for work or your personal life. Cost: Free

ProtonMail – Encrypted Email

Email communications are extremely sensitive – remember the DNC hack of 2016? Don’t let yours fall into the wrong hands by using ProtonMail. Created by scientists at CERN, this great program encrypts and decrypts on the fly and is virtually impossible for anyone but the intended recipient to read the message. Cost: Free

Avira Vault

Sometimes we need privacy even within our phones. Avira Vault allows you to hide certain photos, messages, credit card info, and/or contacts even when the phone is unlocked. You can even create a decoy account with separate password to fool thieves or spies.

We hope these 5 security apps for iPhone users help you keep you protected from hackers, thieves, and spies.
