Take control of your infosec career with CyberSeek

March 15, 2019 by Jeff Peters

On this episode of the Infosec Cyberspeak podcast, Tim Herbert, vice president of research and market intelligence for CyberSeek, joins us to discuss something we’re very excited about at Infosec, the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education’s CyberSeek model. The CyberSeek model helps aspiring and experienced infosec professionals progress through their career by providing clearly defined career pathways, an interactive job map, a list of skills and certifications most requested by employers for different roles, and a variety of other helpful data points that are backed by research into the information security job market.

In the podcast, Herbert and host Chris Sienko discuss:

– How did you get involved in security and get into your role at CompTIA and CyberSeek? (1:30)
– Where did the idea for CyberSeek come from and what problem was it trying to address? (3:15)
– Why does the Bureau of Labor Statistics say there are only 100,000 people working in cybersecurity? (5:05)
– What do you believe is the biggest cause of the skills gap? (6:30)
– What are your thoughts on the theory that the skills gap doesn’t really exist, but that it’s more of a training gap? (9:10)
– Are there any job areas where the skills gap is shrinking? (11:30)
– How can infosec workers avoid burnout when the technology advances so quickly? (13:40)
– Tell us about how CyberSeek works and its alignment with the NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework? (14:35)
– Demo of CyberSeek and how professionals can use it to help advance their career. (17:00)
