Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits are a metric that is used to measure whether a student maintains the up-to-date education required for their CompTIA certifications — like CASP+. Candidates can earn CEUs by completing CompTIA’s Continuing Education (CE) activities. For the CASP+ certification, you need to earn 75 CEUs within a three-year period to maintain your active status.

How can I earn CASP+ CEUs?

In order to earn CASP+ CEUs, you can participate in a variety of activities. These activities can involve participation in live webinars, conferences, training courses, and American Council on Education (ACE) courses. In addition, you can teach or mentor, create instructional materials, publish a book, post blog entries, create a whitepaper or other industry-relevant article, gain related work experience, or earn either CompTIA certification or non-CompTIA certification.

To qualify, these activities must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Correct timing — you must complete these activities during your 3-year renewal period
  • Relevance — at least 50% of the activity contents must relate to one or more exam domains/objectives for your CASP+ certification renewal
  • Documentation — you must provide documentation of all aforementioned activities to earn CEUs

How do I calculate CASP+ CEU credits?

There is no hard and fast rule for calculating CASP+ Continual Educational Units (CEUs), as different activities carry different unit weights. The following examples indicate the earning and calculation of 75 CEUs for a 3-year renewal cycle of CASP+ certification.

Work Experience:

  • Three (3) CEUs obtained per CE renewal cycle year
  • Total: 9

Creation of instructional material:

  • One (1) CEU obtained per hour of work throughout the 3-year CE cycle x 40-hour project
  • Total: 40

Publish 20 industry-relevant blog posts:

  • One (1) CEU for each blog post of at least 500 words
  • Total: 20

Attending a 6-hour webinar:

  • One (1) CEU earned per hour x 6 hours
  • Total: 6

The grand total of all these four activities provides 75 CASP+ CEUs, which are required for its renewal.

You can also determine whether your CE activities are valid or not. CompTIA provides you with a CEU Assessment Tool that checks if your CE activities meet the CE program requirements. These requirements include:

  • The completion date of your CE activity
  • CE activity content
  • The documentation of your CE activity

Once your activities are validated by the assessment tool, you will enter the activity detail and then upload the required document into your certification account. If you have not created your certification account so far, you will not be able to upload your activities. Therefore, you need to register as soon as possible. The next section provides a detailed description of each activity.

What are the ways I can earn CASP+ CEUs?
