Out last article provided an overview into what the CGEIT is all about. Essentially, it is a cert that specializes in IT governance. As described, it is a very specialized kind of cert, and there is only a small percentage of IT professionals worldwide that actually possess it. It is geared primarily towards the upper echelon IT leader, such as a senior IT Manager, CIO, CISO, etc. There are five domains that are covered, with three of them making up a majority of the exam.

What are skillsets that are the skillsets and work requirements in order to take the CGET?

The IT professional that is appearing for the CGEIT is normally a highly seasoned one. They have been in the profession for quite some time and have worked primarily in the area of IT Governance or other fields closely allied with it. In terms of work requirements, it is expected that the candidate appearing for the exam will have at least five solid years of work experience. One year of this must be spent in managing the Frameworks that are required to establish an effective IT Governance program for an organization. The other four years of work experience must be in two of the five domains. All employment experience will be verified and must be completed within a 10-year timeframe preceding the date of the initial application for the CGEIT. Also, a candidate can still appear and take the exam without having all of the required work experience. But, they will not be awarded the cert until they have met the five-year requirement.

What are the domains that are covered by the CGEIT?

There are five specific domains, and they are as follows:

  • Strategic Management
  • Benefits Realization
  • Risk Management
  • Resource Optimization
  • Framework for the Governance of Enterprise IT

How do I register for the CGEIT?

The PDF application can be downloaded here. It is important to note that this application must be completed within a 5-year time span after completing the exam. This case holds true for those exam takers who have taken and passed the exam, but still need to fulfill their years of work experience, as this will be verified by previous and current employers (see the last few pages of the application form).

What is the cost of the exam?

If you are member of the ISACA, the cost is $575.00, for non-members it is $760.00

What is the exam like?

The exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions, and you have a 4 hour time window in which to complete the exam.

How can I find a convenient testing location?

When are the windows in which the exam cert is offered?

For this year of 2018, there are three testing windows:

  • February 1st – May 24th
  • June 1st – September 23rd
  • October 1st – January 24th, 2019

What is deemed to be a passing score for the exam?

For the CGEIT, a scaled point system of 200-800 is used. To pass the actual exam, a candidate must have achieved a scaled score of at least 450.

Apart from the exam registration fee, are there other fees that I need to be aware of?

Yes, there is a separate application fee of $50.00

How will I receive my exam results?

You will receive your results instantaneously after the completion of the online exam. You will also receive a printout of the results within ten business days, delivered via e-mail.

What are the other requirements for obtaining the CGEIT other than passing the exam and having the required work experience?

In order to receive their credential, the candidate must also adhere to and sign the ISACA Code of Professional Ethics and the CGEIT Continuing Professional Education Policy.
